Market Square Concerts, JACK Quartet - Central Penn Arts Guide

On Saturday, November 12 at 8 pm in Temple Ohev Sholom, New York-based JACK Quartet will perform a?unique program that will challenge the audiences? concept of the string quartet in the 21st century and?expand listeners? audio palate.?The JACK Quartet program of music from the 14th, 20th and 21st centuries?will include Guillaume de Machaut ? Three Transcriptions arranged by Ari Streisfeld, Philip Glass ? Quartet?No. 5, Caleb Burhans ? Contritus for String Quartet and Iannis Xenakis Tetras. There will be a pre-concert?talk by Dr. Richard Strawser at 7:15 pm. Tickets are $30, $25 for seniors and $5 for college students. Comprising violinists Christopher Otto and Ari Streisfeld, violist John Pickford Richards, and cellist Kevin?McFarland, JACK is focused on the commissioning and performance of new works, leading them to work?closely with composers Helmut Lachenmann, Gy?rgy Kurt?g, Matthias Pintscher, Georg Friedrich Haas,?James Dillon, Toshio Hosokawa, Wolfgang Rihm, Elliott Sharp, Beat Furrer, Caleb Burhans, and Aaron?Cassidy. The quartet also offers fresh interpretations of early music, including works by Don Carlo Gesualdo,?Guillaume de Machaut, and Josquin des Prez.
