School uses iPods to help boost students? reading skills
Educators at a California elementary school are using iPods as part of a reading program to help boost students? reading performance. The strategy, which has students using iPods to listen to audiobooks as they read along with the print versions, originally was used with English-language learners and struggling readers but is now being used with other students as well. The school has 400 audiobooks and 50 devices for use by students. T.H.E. Journal (3/7)

IPad app aims to improve organizational skills of those with ADHD
A new iPad tablet computer application is being tested for use by children and adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Focus GPS, by Memory On Demand, employs memory-by-association and multiple pair comparison tools aimed at helping individuals with ADHD organize thoughts and manage changing tasks and priorities. Apple?s new iPad boasts small refinements
Apple showed off the latest version of its iPad on Wednesday, a tablet with a high-definition screen and a faster wireless connection but no major design changes from earlier models. Analysts, however, praised the model, saying it will cement Apple?s tablet dominance when it goes on sale March 16 starting at $499. Some observers questioned the device?s name, as CEO Tim Cook referred to it as simply ?the new iPad.? Publications also compared the iPad to the latest Android devices. N.C. district offering $10 million in iPad grants for schools
A North Carolina school district is planning to distribute $10 million in iPad tablet computers and technology training to teams of teachers who propose the best ways to ?meet the needs of the 21st century digital learner,? with funding for the grants coming from county coffers. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district in January spent $1.2 million on iPads for all its school administrators and is planning for all schools to have wireless Internet service starting in August. App uses haptic technology to help students who cannot see learn math
A new tablet-computer mobile application being developed and tested by a graduate student at Vanderbilt University is meant to help students who cannot see or who have visual impairments learn math and other subjects that include strong visual components. The app utilizes haptic ? or tactile ? technology, assigning vibrations and sounds of varying frequencies to different features, such as the horizontal or vertical lines on an X-Y grid.
