Chinese Herbs and the Treatment of Prostate Cancer | The Chinese ...

Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among men, with more than 543,000 cases diagnosed worldwide each year. In the U.S., about 1 man in 6 develops the disease during his lifetime.

What is Prostate Cancer? The prostate gland is part of the male reproductive system. Erectile dysfunction and frequent urination are the main warning signs. The cancer is usually well advanced by the time it is detected. Men who get yearly physical check ups usually have prostate cancers that are more treatable, due to the early stage at which it is discovered.

Some cancer cells are slow growing and doctors are hesitant to operate on elderly and frail patients. Other times, cancer cells grow faster and surgery is performed. Removal of the prostate can badly affect a man?s ability to have sex, so surgery is not usually desirable, as far as the patient is concerned. But there are natural therapies available such as Chinese medicine which can be very useful in the treatment of prostate cancer.

Researchers at the University of Haifa in northern Israel said they found molecules in the Ganoderma lucidum mushroom, commonly known as Lingzhi in Chinese, which help suppress some mechanisms involved in the progression of prostate cancer.

The stem and cap of the mushroom are used in dried form to support the immune system of cancer patients and to block growth of cancers. It may slow expansion of tumors and stop tumor cells from invading healthy tissues, and also alleviate urinary tract problems that sometimes precede prostate cancer in men.

Apart from Ganoderma, there are many other Chinese herbs with good effects on preventing and the treatment of prostate cancer.

Patrinia (Bai Jiang Cao) helps the body get rid of prostate inflammation or what the Chinese practitioners call ?damp heat? that exists in the body. In Chinese medicine damp heat in the prostate could be caused by bacteria infection, drugs and other conditions such as a habit of eating hot, spicy or greasy foods.

Lu Lu Tong, also known as liquid amber, has the ability to improve Qi and blood circulation. It also helps to reduce the abdominal, back and knee pain caused by damp heat as well as difficult urination because of bladder or prostate inflammation.

He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) contains several derivatives of tetrahydroxystilbene. These antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds may act as an estrogen-like substance, reducing levels of circulating male hormones such as DHT that fuel the growth of prostate cancer.

As with all other diseases, the important thing about Prostate cancer is that prevention and early detection are the best options as opposed to late stage discovery. Men have the notorious habit of thinking they are tough and nothing can get to them, only to find out the truth when it?s too late.

Don?t be another statistics, pay attention to your health and have regular medical check ups, seek out a qualified Chinese medicine practitioner that can help you maintain and enhance your health and wellbeing. It?s not only the best option, in my view, that?s the only option.
